1st Day
Blijf op de hoogte en volg Peter

Left Ballarat on Sunday 6 November at 2.00.
Had lunch with Estelle and Astrid just before and afterwards we said our goodbyes.
I had written a list of things to take and had printed it of 2 hours before we left. Of course I forgot to look at it as we were collecting our stuff to take. 20 Km out of Ballarat I realised I had forgotten to take 2 pillows and 30 km’s out of Ballarat I realised that I had forgotten to take a pump to blow up the mattress. Next time I must create a list of what to do before leaving.
We drove to Warrnambool to say our goodbyes to Jan’s mum Norma and Robyn and James.
We left Warrnambool the next morning at 8.30. Weather was overcast and it started to rain.
We took minor roads and the roads in the western district are shocking. So we had some roadworks!!
In Hamilton we bought some pillows, a small table and 2 coffees and off we went again.
The countryside is beautiful, undulating country, green paddocks everywhere, creeks and dams are full, it is rich and lush country (but there is no money for roads).
Drove through 3 SA wine regions, Coonawarra, Barossa Valley and Clare Valley and I can’t drink a drop of wine, bad for my heart!! How depressing.
Arrived at 18.00 at Clare, Jan had knitted half a hat and I had two kips. We will have to come back to this region another time as it is beautiful.
Tomorrow it is off to Ceduna.

Hallo Peet en Jan,
ik Wilde vrijdagmorgen vorige week !! nog bellen maar weer helemaal de tijd kwijt dan is het weer te laat.
Zaterdag en vandaag moeten werken kom dan pas om vier uur thuis.
Ik ga nog even zeggen dat ik het fijn vind voor jullie dat je nu lekker kunt gaan genieten van veel vrijetijd.
Niet meer hoeven werken klinkt voor mij nog heeel ver weg. Raar idee dat ik de enige ben die nog werkt van de familie.
Heb van de week nog even gekeken hoe het bij mij zit met het pensioen, ha ha kon het niet laten.
Ik kan als ik wil met 62 al met pensioen.
Ik moet dan wel pensioen geld naar voren halen en dat betekent dat je op een later tijdstip weer minder krijgt
Ik zie het wel , gelukkig gaan we meestal met plezier werken dus we kunnen nog even door.
Ik hoop dat jullie een fantastische vakantie gaan hebben in het westen van Australië . foto's zien er heel goed uit.
Wel erg jammer voor jullie dat de koning en koningin al naar huis zijn . die waren verleden week daar ook. hadden jullie een handje kunnen hebben van Maxi en Alex.

Hi Peter and Jan,
Welcome into the tribe of the ' grey brigade', the travelling pensioners. In fact, 'young' retirees, like you, usually start a whole new life, once they have abandoned the rat-race...And what is a better, liberating way than immediately 'ride into the sunshine'. Or, in other words, cross the Nullarbor Desert for a change? Victoria (wet) was not yet ready for you, but I am sure that by now the sun hasl come out of your ears in the Nullarbor.
By the way, do you know that Ceduna is the Aboriginal name for a place to rest. Of course, 'rest' meaning' 'retired'.
Another good thing that you were still in the desert, when the weird US elections came to a dramatic conclusion.Blissfully unaware, I hope.
Looking forward to the next message of your inaugural trip as retirees....

Heb even zitten stoeien met hinderlijke reclames, maar kan nu toch iets schrijven.
Fijn te lezen dat ik niet de enige ben die wel eens wat vergeet. Of is het gewoon erfelijk bepaald?
Leuk dat we jullie een beetje kunnen volgen.
